It is believed that soccer (well, football, like they say outside US) was invented in England around 1863. Game soccer is actually derived from rugby, although it’s hard to deny that humans have been kicking those bouncy balls around for over thousand years now.
And it is not only myths and legends – there are actual carvings made by Ancient Greeks that picture men doing pretty obvious soccer moves with a wall. Yes, it’s in the history books that actual soccer rules were established in 1863, but there’s still no person credited for inventing this greatest sports of all time.
Soccer gained worldwide popularity when England became major player in colonization. Many of those countries are no longer ruled by the queen, but they still enjoy what English conquerors brought with them – soccer.
