Kyrie Irving wants players to start their own league
Kyrie Irving has become sort of a leader of the growing movement within NBA that plans to boycott the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season. Also, this hasn’t been the only or the most radical idea proposed by Mr Irving – he also argued, that players should start their own league.
During the conference call with over 80 participants, Kyrie Irving allegedly said this: “I’m not with the systematic racism and the bullshit. … Something smells a little fishy. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are targeted as black men every day we wake up.”
Many players have been publicly arguing that participating in NBA games or restarting the NBA might likely do more harm than good, considering the current state the United States is in at this very moment. One of the biggest reasons being games would provide fans another distraction from the protests against racism and law enforcement brutality. Also, let’s not forget, Irving himself is recovering from shoulder injury…
Even if Irving’s ideas might not be everyone’s cup of tea, his voice represents growing number of players and let’s not forget he was elected as one of the vice presidents of player union this February. So mr Irving is not only representing himself but large portion of players in the National Basketball Association.
